E-Learning Department

E-Learning Department
Overview:

We aspire to make the Hashemite University distinguished and come first in providing all kinds of information technology services, distance learning and related matters. It includes consultations, training and technical support inside Jordan and the Middle East that aims at achieving the vision of His Majesty King Abdullah II in narrowing the digital void and the dissemination of computer culture.

Department vision:
From the onset of Corona Virus pandemic where it was necessary to stop face-to-face learning and shift to distance learning, the department has taken the initiative to train both students and staff members to conduct distance learning platforms in the teaching process and provide them with technical support and with all the programs and applications they need during the semester. We hope that with the end of the pandemic that all students would be fully aware of using all educational platforms skillfully.

The department incorporates the following Sections:
Electronic Curriculum Development Section
Since the initiation of e-learning in 2007 at the Hashemite University, many programs were launched for the purposes of development and e-learning. The most important of which is the remote broadcasting of lectures as the university began to reduce the number of students in the sections of the courses in which the number of students exceeds 1000 student where remote interactive broadcast laboratories have been equipped, and students were distributed among 3 laboratories, taught by one lecturer. Afterwards, the educational materials management platform Moodle was customized to the university by linking the platform with the database of Acceptance and Registration unit which helped in facilitating the services provided for online materials by making it faster and more efficient as the database is revised by the end of each day in order to keep the data up-to-date.
Moodle - The educational materials management platform (Moodle) has been approved

As an e-learning platform at the Hashemite University, the platform includes the following:
Number of students on the Moodle platform = 51686
Number of teachers = 709
2018 on the moodle = 1991 / number of courses offered until the end of the first semester of 2019.
-A group of courses that were computerized online are taught on the Moodle platform where the rate of interaction between lecturers and students and the percentage of students using the platform reached 90%, and this indicates the importance of the e-learning platform at the university, as it has become the first mean of communication between lecturers and students where a faculty member can track attendance and absence through the moodle.
-E-learning holds periodic training workshops to train faculty members on modern computing programs and other courses on how to us
* The E-Learning Department cooperates with other educational parties that serve students and teachers. For example, it has signed an agreement with Microsoft to provide students and teachers with 365 Office to allow them to communicate and use all the tools available on Windows Azure.
* The E-Learning downloads all the programs that teachers need for computing and e-learning purposes.
* The E-Learning has computerized and converted a large number of materials into electronic materials that are taught online.
* Some courses are taught using two methods (online teaching via Moodle, and classroom teaching), which greatly improves the students' academic level.
* The E-Learning supervises and follows up the electronic content of computerized materials. It also updates materials and communicates with the university teachers according to students’ needs.
* The E-Learning broadcasts interactive lectures by video conference to other universities.
* The E-learning prepares electronic exams (i.e., first, second, half-term, final, and placement exams) for approximately 100 subjects and about 33,000 students. The E-learning also distributes students to the university’s computer labs and displays the distribution on the students’ electronic portal so students can know the name of the lab and the number of the computer on which they are going to take the exam. By doing this, students cannot take the exam elsewhere. Once the exam is over, the E-learning reveal the exam score on the student portal.
* The E-learning organizes the work of laboratory supervisors, works to develop their knowledge and expertise to excel in their job, and meets their needs during the semester.
* The e-learning team designs books, flyers, papers for workshops, conferences, seminars, scientific days, and medical days in different faculties and departments, using the latest graphic design programs.
* The e-learning provides the technical support to faculty members regarding the necessary software for recording lectures and using electronic applications and systems.
* The e-learning holds electronic exams on the Moodle system for courses which have exams that cannot be held on the exam system, supplementary exams, and others.
* The e-learning has formed a team for technical support on Facebook to help students during the Corona pandemic.

Laboratories and Exams Section
The Internet Laboratories Section is administratively affiliated with the Information, Communications and E-Learning Technology Center. The center includes 21 laboratories and 17000 computers. All these laboratories are open daily for students during the university working hours. The Section provides various services to students as the followings:
First: The Section offers services as internet, printing, electronic exams, registration, grade exploring, and services related to students’ homework.
Second: The Section assigns laboratories for lectures given by faculty members of different faculties, and it equips these laboratories with necessary software according to the course requirements.
Third: Ibn Sina laboratory, located in the Engineering Building, was allocated for taking and reviewing online lectures. The laboratory has now become an electronic classroom equipped with educational aids (high-quality audio system, system Software, advanced high-quality hardware) in line with the automation project that is currently being prepared. Furthermore, there are laboratories, located in the East Classroom Complex and the Languages Centre, through which class lectures are broadcasted live. In these laboratories, the teacher explains in a main laboratory and the lecture is broadcasted to the rest of the above-mentioned laboratories.
Fourth: There are laboratories under construction which are the laboratories in Queen Rania College for Childhood, with a capacity of approximately 500 devices.
The following table shows the laboratories of the center classified based on their size (small, medium and large) and the absorptive capacity in terms of the number of devices. The total number of the devices in all the laboratories of the center is approximately 1,700 computers.
