About Department

The Department of Civil Engineering at the Hashemite University (HU), Zarqa, Jordan, was established in 1999.  It conducts basic and applied research relevant to the needs of the Kingdom.  The Department is well equipped with modern laboratories to support its educational and research needs.  In addition to its teaching mission, the department has a major responsibility to disseminate knowledge by offering continuing education short courses for the private and public sectors, as well as providing technical and consulting services to the local industry. 

Since its initiation in 1999, the department strives to graduate competent civil engineers for challenging carriers both in Jordan and in the region. The department offers a B.Sc. degree in Civil Engineering and Master degree in structural Engineering . The department has 28 faculty members who graduated from top schools in US and European top schools. Research interests of faculty members include construction engineering and management, structural engineering, water and environmental engineering, traffic and highway engineering, material engineering, and geotechnical engineering. The department is equipped with 9 laboratories that are utilized for teaching and research purposes.
 

The program was revised on 2009 due to re-organization of the Faculty of Engineering and the plan for local accreditation (HEAC, www.heac.org.jo). Since 2011, the department has been locally accredited by the Higher Education Accreditation Commission (HEAC) at Jordan. 

The Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in civil engineering at the Hashemite University is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, https://www.abet.org, under the commission’s General Criteria and Program Criteria for Civil and Similarly Named Engineering Programs.
