****** Dr. Katherine Miles (Director)
Dr. Katherine Miles is a British medical doctor specialized in Medical Education. She is passionate about improving the standard of teaching and learning of medicine and other health professions. Dr. Miles is a lecturer in Clinical Communication and Clinical Skills at the Hashemite University Faculty of Medicine. She developed the Faculty of Medicine Clinical Skills curriculum and is the former Director of the Clinical Skills Education and Testing Center. Dr. Miles is the Lead for the ‘Advanced Medical Education and Ethics Module’ of the new Jordanian Intercalated Basic Medical Sciences degree. Her research interests include advancements and innovation in medical education; methods for effective clinical communication; and cultural competency.

******* Dr. Hana Taha (Assistant Director)
Dr. Hana Taha, Assistant Professor of Global Public Health at the Faculty of Medicine in the Hashemite University, an active member in the Swedish Academics Union and a Senior Researcher at Karolinska Institutet, Sweden. Dr. Taha received a PhD in Global Public Healthand a Postdoc in Epidemiology from Karolinska Institutet, Sweden. She has a wealth of international experience and in-depth knowledge of medical education using innovative pedagogical learning techniques. Hana’s multicultural background and technical expertise enabled her to accomplish success in assignments embracing women health and gender equity. She has expertise in public health programs leadership within USAID projects and leading NGOs in Jordan. She has vast competence in establishing multi-stakeholder and cross-sector partnerships, evidence-based policy development, civil society and social mobilization, grass roots-initiated health promotion, social marketing and capacity building, writing public health grants applications, publishing scientific manuscripts and promoting research uptake for decision making and policy formulation. She served as an active member in Jordan’s Economic Policies Development Forum, Jordan’s Women Health Alliance, and Empowerment Committee.  Dr. Taha will assist the Director of the Medical Education center in equipping the medical students with Global Public Health competencies that enable them to contribute to improving the health in their local contexts that are infiltrated by globalization. She is passionate about storytelling, problem-based learning and learner-centered approaches that guide the students’ curious discovery of the relationships between various concepts.
 

******** Dr. Rana Dajani (Academic Advisor)
Dr. Rana Dajani is a molecular biologist, social entrepreneur and global thought leader. She is the founder of We Love Reading, a grassroots initiative to create changemakers in underserved communities by fostering a lifelong love of reading. A recipient of the UNESCO International Literacy Prize, We Love Reading has established more than 4,000 locally run libraries in over 60 countries. Dr. Dajani is a professor of molecular biology at the Hashemite University in Jordan. Her area of expertise is epigenetics and biomarkers of trauma among refugees. Through her leadership, she has introduced national and regional stem cell laws and presided over numerous scientific boards and United Nations councils, most recently as the President of the Society for the Advancement of Science and Technology in the Arab World. A tireless supporter of building indigenous research capabilities in the developing world and creating a mentoring program to support women scholars in STEM that was recognized by the National Academy of Sciences. Her 2018 book ‘Five Scarves: Doing the Impossible — If We Can Reverse Cell Fate, Why Can’t We Redefine Success?’ challenged global policy makers to address ongoing inequities in education and employment, while also putting forward a new paradigm for measuring success in an evolving world.

 

******** Dr. Salwa Al Noori (Visiting Professor)

Dr. Al-Noori completed her education in the USA, earning a B.S. degree in Behavioral Neuroscience and Biology and a B.A. degree in History and Philosophy of Science from the University of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. She conducted postdoctoral training in Seattle, Washington. A main area of her research has focused on elucidating roles of central nervous system stress mechanisms in physiological regulation and how their dysregulation underlies pathophysiology in different disease states.
As a faculty member at the University of Washington, Dr. Al-Noori engages in teaching, research, service, and mentoring roles. In her teaching and mentoring, she aims to foster contexts that support student-centered inquiry-based collaborative learning. By incorporating interdisciplinary, multi-perspective approaches, she strives to engage students in ways that make learning accessible and advance diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) education. As a mentor for the Science Teaching Experience for Postdocs – Working in Science Education (STEP-WiSE) program, she has engaged in mentoring postdoctoral fellows in developing practices that promote inclusive teaching, active learning, effective science communication, and professional development.
In her work relating to internationalization of curriculum in higher education, Dr. Al-Noori engages in Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) using virtual exchange with international partners to promote globalized perspectives. Her work in COIL and in learning communities focused on internationalization informs her pedagogical practices as she continually seeks to develop approaches that integrate diversity and community engagement. As a visiting Fulbright Scholar in Jordan she will be engaged in exchange of pedagogical practices focused on promoting culturally-responsive teaching in STEM education through international collaboration.

 

******** Dr. Zuheir Hasan (Academic Advisor and Educator) 
Dr. Zuheir Hasan received his PhD in physiology from the university of California at Davis CA, USA, 1983. Following the completion of his graduate studies, he returned to Jordan and was appointed as an assistant professor of physiology at the College of Medicine at Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST). During his tenure (1983- 2005) at JUST, he was heavily engaged in teaching physiology and neuroscience to medical students. He also served as an assistant to the Dean, the Chair of Physiology Department and a Vice Dean.
Dr. Hasan was a member of the team that led the development, transformation and implementation of the JUST medical curriculum to a system-based integrated curriculum. Such curriculum transformation was aimed to enhance the integration of different basic sciences disciplines, increase early exposure of medical students to clinical sciences, and encourage self-dependent guided learning.  
In 2005, he joined the Arabian Gulf University where he served as a Professor of physiology for 14 years. During this time, Dr. Hasan attended medical education workshops and conferences, which enhanced his experience in different aspects of medical education. For example, medical student assessment, construction of different types of assessment including MCQ, short answer assay questions, and extended matching questions, OSPE, test standardization, curriculum development and problem based learning (PBL).
His experience in medical education at AGU, was a unique and exceptional one and gave him further insight into the relevance of medical education for improving education, faculty development, curriculum planning, continuous curriculum changes, medical student assessments, PBL and more.
Dr Hasan returned to Jordan in 2019 and joined the College of Medicine at the Hashemite University at the beginning of the academic year 2019/2020. He is currently a Professor of physiology and continues to facilitate improvements in medical educational processes. 
Dr.  Hasan believes good teachers are not borne, they are made.  

 

******** Dr. Doaa Al-Zboon (Training Assistant)
Dr. Doaa Al-Zboon is a medical doctor and a graduate from the Hashemite University. She is currently teaching and working as a Research Assistant in the Clinical Skills Education and Teaching Center (CSETC), and for the First Aid course at the Hashemite University.
Since November 2021, she has taught first, second, and third year medical students. The CSETC focuses on teaching medical students the necessary skills and aspects of clinical practice that they can make use of during their clinical years. It became clear to Dr Al-Zboon that she wanted to focus on medical education and teaching medical students for her future career, as it felt extremely joyous and natural for her. 
Dr Al-Zboon has always been fond of the mission and vision of the Medical Education program as it focuses on enriching the foundation of educators in aspects of both practice and theory. This is important due to medical educators’ responsibility to deliver medical and health subjects in the most efficient and optimal way possible. The skills and knowledge needed to advance health sciences education is no less important than the sciences taught by health care professionals.
