About Department


Introduction
The Humanities and Social Sciences Department was established at the beginning of the 1999-2000 to teach the provided courses according to the Hashemite University's outline plan. International Relations and Strategic Studies Program was added to the department at the beginning of the year 2002-2003 which provides a clear scientific image about various critical issues that are challenging Arab-Islamic World as well as the International community.
Accordingly, the department provides a bachelor degree in International Relations and Strategic Studies after finishing the program courses. At the beginning of the year 2003-2004, the department had adjusted its outline plan according to the university's objectives. Consequently, a University requirement (Domestic Culture) course (0107108) was added, and the Human Civilization course (0107100) has changed to become a selective university requirement course.

Objectives
The department aims at carrying out research on the following research areas:
- Research Methods, Environmental Sociology, Political Sociology, Environmental Concern, and place attachment.
- Jordan and Palestine Modern and Contemporary Arab History.
- International Relations, Foreign Policy, and Political Economy.
- Mass communication, political thought, European-Arab relations.
- Inter Arab Relations and the Palestinian Issue, political Islam, conflict resolution, civilizations dialogue, Islam-West relations.
- Teach the provided courses according to the Hashemite University's outline plan.
- Provide a clear scientific image about various critical issues that are challenging Arab-Islamic World as well as the International community.

Academic and Research Plan
The department aims at achieving the following targets in five years period:
- Launch a graduate program in peace and conflict resolution studies.
- Issue a refereed scientific journal in conflict resolution studies.
- Publish series of social specialized studies (monograph).
- Establish network relations with international and Arabic research centers.
- Establish simulation models using high tech equipments and software.
