Department of Networks, Telecommunications and Technical Services
The Department of Networks, Systems and Smart Campus consists of several sections:
1. The Communications and Networks Section
The Communications and Networks Section provides, updates, develops and maintains a computer network infrastructure and audio-visual communication from a network computer, telephone, and equips, implements and monitors the infrastructure to provide services to faculty members, students, staff and institutes
The section designs, implements and maintains the wired computer network in addition to the telephone network.
2. Systems and Information Security Section:
It is one of the departments of the Networks, Communications and Technical Services in the Center for Information Technology, Communications and E-Learning, which is concerned primarily with everything related to the main services (Servers) and providing the infrastructure for all computerized software and applications at the university. As well as It is concerned with providing protection for each of the main servers and devices in the university and developing the operating systems on the devices to keep pace with the rapid development in the field of informatics.
The Services provided by the Systems and Information Security Section:
a. Providing protection for the university network: such as protection from viruses, hacking programs, protection and regulation of internet browsing at the university through programs of internet filtering. It also follows-up and manages the electronic services on the Citrix Firewall Web application protection system, and follows-up the license renewal for various software such as anti-virus programs, backups - for example, but not limited to updates related to servers and software
And it provides all electronic services with a secure and reliable browsing system through encrypted security certificates to ensure the greatest degree of security.
b. Email Granting and Administration Service: The Systems Section provides an electronic email service on the university’s scale, in order for this email to be used for the purposes of work, research and correspondence to faculty members, employees and students at the university, whose nature of work requires the existence of this service.
Emails are managed by applying the appropriate licenses according to the type of user and, of course, by re-installing the passwords for users by activating the e-mail of faculty members on the Microsoft system.
c. Services related to distance education: includes following up and managing accounts for academics and students and applying the appropriate policies as needed for each team. It also follows-up activities and reports on demand.
d. Backup of databases and main devices
The integrity of the main machines and main databases are maintained by keeping backup copies of all the machines for use when needed. In addition, it manages the central storage units and follows up the backup system for the virtual environment.
e. Username granting service for students
A user name is created for students on their domain so that they can work on the equipment available in all the computer center laboratories and use the Internet or print on devices, use wireless Internet, and other available services
f. Service to determine the quantity of printing for students:
This service determines the amount of printing allowed for the student in each semester in all the laboratories of the computer center and determines the type of files prohibited for students.
g. The service of creating the Sub domain for the internal university departments and faculties and determining the extent of the need for it and its example.

3. Maintenance Section:
This section is concerned with providing maintenance and repair services for all university computers and their accessories, and it provides advice and technical support to all university employees. As this service has been provided since the establishment of the computer center, where it began with one technician in 1997 and with the expansion of the university and the increase in numbers of equipments, the section was established in 2006 and now includes seven technicians to provide a distinguished and fast service and is always concerned with providing new means to improve the efficiency and the speed of completion.
The Section's action lines:
The first action line: Support and maintenance: The Computer Maintenance Section provides maintenance and technical support for computers with their accessories from printing machines, display devices and scanning devices. In addition to the devices, it provides technical support for the various software and applications used by the student or employee.
There are two types of support and maintenance:
1. Daily or regular support, which is what the Section undertakes in the event of any problem on any device.
2. Semester or periodic support, which is what the Section provides from support and periodic maintenance of devices before the start of any semester
The second action line: advisory and knowledge services: where the maintenance section sets the technical specifications for computers and their accessories by keeping abreast of the latest developments in the field of information technology. It also provides technical advice and courses to students and staff and the local community.
Services provided by the Maintenance Section -Automated maintenance orders via the employee portal.
-A computerized program to receive maintenance orders and transfer them to technicians.
-Completion of orders within 24 hours.
-A remote maintenance program (Team Viewer).
-Maintenance hotline service (Help Desk) at (5151).
4. Cyber Security Section
The Section works to maintain security, confidentiality as well as data transmission and to protect university systems against cyber attacks from inside and outside the university.
5. Control Department and Smart Campus section
The Section works to control the electronic gates of the entrances to the buildings and the main university gates and to record all the movements of students and staff in the university. The Section also works to activate the electronic halls for distance learning through cameras that track lecturers while they are giving the lecture and smartly control the lighting of halls when there are no people in them. Moreover, the department monitors all students and staff in most of the university facilities as well as designs, implements and maintains the wireless computer network.
Some of the qualitative projects implemented by the Department of Networks, Systems and Smart Campus:
The electronic monitoring system project (Aman), where 200 internal and external cameras were installed to help guard the university facilities against any harm in the best ways and at the lowest cost, as the computer network at the university was used without affecting the speed of data transmission and the Internet.
A project to develop the network infrastructure at the university, where an optical fiber network was installed between the Information Technology Center and some faculties by 12 in order to raise the speed of information transmission to 40 gigabits/sec for the Faculty of Engineering, and a new network of optical fibers was installed inside the Faculty of Engineering. Additionally, all the main and subsidiary distributors inside the Faculty of Engineering were changed, and the main distributor of the university was changed and replaced with high-speed and efficient distributors from the global company HP. The infrastructure inside the server room was also changed to raise the speed of data transmission between users and servers and to ensure uninterrupted services provided for users.
