1. What are the scholarships and funds opportunities offered to graduate students?

2. What is the maximum period for the scholarship?
It is given for four semesters, four months per semester.
3. What are the requirements for the scholarship?
a. The student should be admitted to a regular program.
b. The student’s minimum load is 6 credit hours.
c. The student should not have receive a warning at the same semester of the scholarship.
d. The student should not have another scholarship whether internal or externa. 
4. How much is the scholarship?
The scholarship can be either full or partial. For scientific schools, it is 200 JDs per month but the students should work for four labs per week. For Humanities schools, it is 100 JDs per month, but the students should work for 10 hours per week.
5. How can the students apply for the scholarship? When?
To apply, a student needs to fill a form (at the beginning of every semester). These forms are then investigated and studied by the graduate studies committees in the department and the school.

6. What should a student having the scholarship do?
The student should present a document showing the number of hours and the type of tasks he did every month. A detailed report done by the supervisor or the department chair at the end of each semester.

7. How many credit hours should be studied and covered based on the studying plan?
a. High diploma : minimum of 30 credit hours (21 credit hours specialization compulsory of the level 500 and 9 credit hours of the level 400)
b. MA degree : (Thesis track) minimum of 33 credit hours (24 hours level of the level 700 and 9 hours thesis).
(non thesis track): 33 hours of the level 700 including 3 hours for the research project.
c. PHD degree: 54 hours (21hours compulsory requirements of the level 900, 5 hours electives of the 900 level, and 18 hours for the dissertation.)
8. What is the maximum time allowed for the student to get the degree?
a. High diploma: 6 semesters excluding the summer semester. In some cases, the student can have two more extra semesters.
b. MA : 8 semesters excluding the summer semester. In some cases, the student can have one more extra semester.
c. PHD: 10 semesters excluding the summer semester. In some cases, the student can have two more extra semesters.
9. How many remedial course is the student required to take?
a. High diploma: The department council can determine the required remedial courses in order increase the student’s knowledge. 
b. MA : The maximum number of remedial courses is 9 hours not included in the student’s study plan.
c. PHD: The maximum number of remedial courses is 9 hours not included in the student’s study plan.
• Those courses are assigned and decided in the application of admission.
10. What is the maximum time allowed for the student to complete the assigned remedial courses?
The student should complete successfully the required remedial courses in one year from the date of admission.
11. What are the maximum and the minimum loads the student can have each semester?
a. High diploma: minimum 3 hours, maximum 12 hours. In the summer semester, the maximum is 9 hours.
b. MA : minimum 6 hours , maximum 12 hours. In the summer semester, the maximum is 3 hours and 6 hours if the student is a graduate.
c. PHD: minimum 6 hours , maximum 12 hours. In the summer semester, the maximum is 6 hours and 9 if remedial courses are included.

12. What is the period allowed to withdraw from a course or more?
a. MA: The students are allowed to withdraw from a course up to the 13th week of the fall and the spring semesters, and up to the 5th week of the summer semester.
b. PHD: The students are allowed to withdraw from a course up to the 13th week of the fall and the spring semesters, and up to the 6th week of the summer semester.

• Withdrawing from all the courses in a semester is considered a postponing for that semester. 
13. How many semesters can a student postpone?
a. High diploma: two semesters consecutively or not consecutively.
b. MA: two semesters consecutively or not consecutively.
c. PHD: two semesters consecutively or not consecutively.
14. How can a student withdraw from the university?
a. MA: the student should fill an application and submit it to the admission and registration department.
b. PHD: the student should fill an application and submit it to the admission and registration department 2 weeks before the final exams.
15. When is the students deprived from a course and when the student is considered withdrawing the course?
a. MA: The student fails a course if he/she was absent from 15% of the lectures without any medical excuse. The student is considered withdrawing the course if he/she was absent from 20% of the lecture with a medical excuse.
b. PHD: The student fails a course if he/she was absent from 20% of the lectures without any medical excuse. The student is considered withdrawing the course if he/she was absent from 20% of the lecture with a medical excuse.
16. Can a student transfer from a program to another in the university or from another university?
Yes, the student can transfer from one program to another in the university or from a similar program in another university if he/she meets the admission requirements of that program. The student must fill a form to the desired department and this application is approved by the dean after the recommendation of the post graduate committees of the department and the school.
17. How many credit hours will be equalized if the student had studied previously at the Hashemite University or another university?
a. High diploma: If the student transfers from another program at HU, all the courses (included in the plan of the new program) will be equalized. If the student transfers from another university, up to 9 credit hours will be equalized if those courses are of high diploma level and the student’s grade must be C+ or 65%.
b. MA: If the student transfers from another program at HU, all the courses (included in the plan of the new program) will be equalized and will be calculated for the cumulative average. If the student transfers from another university, up to 6 credit hours will be equalized level and the student’s grade must be very good. The grade of those courses will not be calculated in the cumulative average.
18. What is the minimum passing grade for the course, compulsory, electives and remedial?
a. High diploma: The minimum passing point for the courses is C and for the cumulative average it is 2.5.
b. MA:   The minimum passing point for the courses is C+ , C- for remedial courses , and the cumulative average is 3/4.
c. PHD:   The minimum passing point for the courses is C+ . The passing grade for remedial courses depends on the level of the course, and for the cumulative average it is 3/4.
19. Is there a web site? How can we get a user name a password?
 Yes, it can be obtained after having the student number and by visiting the student’s portal.
20. How can a newly admitted student get the student number?
The new student will be given a number by the deanship of the students’ affairs.
21. How can a student get the ID?
The student can get the university ID from the deanship of the students’ affairs after paying the tuitions and the fees and registering the courses.
22. Can a student pay the application fee and all the fees online?
Yes, through e-fawateerkom, any bank branch inside or outside Jordan, or through money exchange services.
23. Can a student register for the courses without coming to the admission and the registration department?
Yes, by using the self-admission and registration system.  
24. Can a student apply while being abroad?
Yes, by using the HU website, admission and registration, apply.
25. How can a student apply electronically?
Through student’s portal and filling the application online.
26. What is the deadline for paying the tuition and the fees without any charges?
By the last working day of first week as shown in the academic calendar. (HU website, the financial affairs department)
27. When are the required language test and proficiency exam conducted?
The language test is conducted in the dates announced by the language center. The proficiency exam is conducted by the department. 
28. Can a student retake a course to get a higher grade?
High diploma: the student can retake a specific number of courses to improve his/her cumulative average (if it is less than 2.5) after the approval of the department and the school.
MA and PHD: the student can retake a specific number of courses to improve his/her cumulative average (if it is less than 3 or B) after the approval of the department and the school.

29. When is a student given a warning?
MA: If the student achieved less than the minimum cumulative average (B or 3)
PHD: If the student achieved less than the minimum cumulative average (B or 3).
30. When is the student dismissed from a program?
MA:
a. If the student did not achieve the minimum cumulative average after 2 semesters after getting the warning.
b. If the student did not achieve the graduation requirements.
c. If the student violates the laws in a way that leads to dismissal.
d. If the student withdraws from all the courses registered in the first semester.
e. If the student fails two compulsory courses or failed the same course twice.
f. If the students fails the comprehensive exam twice. 
g. If the student fails the defense or the student did not do the required modifications in the period indicated in the regulations.
PHD :
a. If the student did not achieve the minimum cumulative average after 2 semesters after getting the warning.
b. If the result of the dissertation defense is fail.
c. If the student did not achieve the graduation requirements in the allowed period.  
31. When can the student submit the proposal? (this includes the credit hours).
MA: Not exceeding the fourth semester after admission.
PHD: After completing 12 hours and succeeding the proficiency exam and not exceeding the sixth semester of admission.
• The student can register for the thesis after completing 12 hours successfully and after the proposal is approved. 
32. What is the period required for assigning the committee and the date of the defense?
MA: the period between approving the proposal and the defense is one semester.
PHD: the period between approving the proposal and the defense is 8 months.
• The date of the defense is assigned by the supervisor 4 weeks before the end of the semester (as indicated in the calendar).
33. When is the student considered suspended? 
High diploma:
a. If the withdrawal and addition period is finished and the student did not register or did not defer the semester.
b. If the student’s registration is cancelled because he/she did not pay the tuitions and the fees.
• The post graduate council and the deans’ council have the right to consider the student deferring the semester if the excuse is accepted in the allowed period.
34. How many semesters can the student defer?
MA and PHD: two semesters consecutively on not consecutively, but the student must have spent in studying one semester at least.
35. What is the GPA? How it is calculated?
It the total of the products of multiplying the grade of a course by its credit hours. This total is then divided by the total number of credit hours (all the courses studied and calculated in the average).
36. What is the academic calendar?
It is the important dates decided by the deans’ council and announced on the website of the Hashemite University.
37. Can a student take and study an alternative course? How?
It is posted on the regulations of awarding MA and PHD degrees.
38. Can a non-Jordanian student apply for a post graduate program?
Yes, by applying for the international program.
39. Is there an online learning system at HU?
Yes, it is done in accordance with the regulations. It is conducted at special conditions through the coordination with the ministry of higher education.
40. Where can certificates be authenticated at The Hashemite University?
This can be done at the office of the cultural councilor found in campus.
