The Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Hashemite University, in collaboration with the Tobacco Control Center at King Hussein Cancer Center, held a two-day training workshop at the Simulation Pharmacy entitled “Empowering University Students with Awareness-Raising Skills on the Harms of Tobacco Use and the Importance of Adopting Healthy Lifestyles.” The workshop took place on Wednesday and Thursday, 15–16 July 2026, with the participation of students from various faculties across the university.
The workshop was delivered by Ms. Rawan Shehab, Head of the Health Awareness and Media Unit at the Tobacco Control Center, and Ms. Mona Mahmoud, Health Awareness and Media Specialist. They presented the latest information on the harmful effects of tobacco use in all its forms, including its health, social, and economic consequences. They also emphasized the importance of adopting healthy lifestyles that promote the well-being of individuals and communities.
The workshop focused on equipping university students with the knowledge and awareness-raising skills needed to communicate effectively and deliver health messages to their peers. This training aimed to empower students to serve as ambassadors for tobacco-control awareness across the university campus.
The workshop also featured interactive activities and constructive discussions that encouraged active student participation. Participants were provided with educational tools and awareness materials to support the implementation of future student-led initiatives, thereby contributing to the university’s efforts to create a healthy and tobacco-free campus environment.
Professor Mohammad Al-Tamimi, Vice President for Health Faculties Affairs, commended the efforts of the workshop organizers and trainers. He emphasized that the workshop forms part of the ongoing collaboration between the Hashemite University and the Tobacco Control Center at King Hussein Cancer Center. This collaboration seeks to enhance health awareness among young people, empower them to lead awareness initiatives, and promote a culture of prevention and healthy living throughout the university community.
