This event aims to introduce students to the pharmacist’s role in the field of intellectual property and patents within the pharmaceutical industry, and to highlight their relationship with innovation, market regulation, and competition.

• Introduction to intellectual property and its types, with a focus on pharmaceutical patents.
• The difference between generic and branded medicines, and the role of patents in market protection.
• The relationship between pharmaceutical regulation and patents, and the patent–drug approval linkage system.
• How pharmaceutical companies assess patent risks before launching new products.

About the speaker:
Dr. Fouad Darres holds a PhD in Medicinal Chemistry from the University of Regensburg, Germany, and a Master’s in Intellectual Property Law from the University of Turin, Italy. He has held leadership positions in major pharmaceutical companies and led research projects at Mayo Clinic, USA.
