The President of the Hashemite University, Prof. Fawaz Al-Abdul Haq Al-Zboun, during the opening of the University Education Workshop held by the Deanship of Academic Development and International outreach, has emphasized the diverse and complementary roles of the faculty member as a teacher, role model, motivator, leader and mentor. He also stated that the faculty members are the basis for the University's educational process success.

 

Prof. Al-Zbounadded that this workshop provides the university professor at the beginning of the journey with various teaching and psychological skills, and methods of course evaluation and development, and urged faculty members to continue to develop their knowledge and familiarize themselves with the university's strategic plan.

Prof. Al-Zboun also said that thisworkshop establishes the concept of a deep university in which everyone works in the spirit of one team and seeks to achieve the same goals in excellence, leadership, and qualifyinggraduate students for global competitiveness.He called on new faculty members to actively participate in the institutional development work of plans and programs, participate in committees and work in a team spirit.He also invited faculty members to use the beginning of the lecture for about 5 minutes to discuss general matters of importance as an appropriate input for the course lecture.

 

The Vice-Chancellor of the University for Student Affairs and international outreach, Prof. Sultan Al-Ma'ani, gave a lecture on work ethics and academic practice calling for the importance of adhering to the charters and ethics governing the work of the faculty in academic institutions, scientific publishing, and their relations with managers, colleagues, and students within the framework of mutual respect and working in a team spirit and educational perspective towards students.Similarly,Prof. Khuloud Al-Amoush, of the Faculty of Arts, provided a wide and rich range of advice from academic and research work experience, stressing that the faculty member has great duties and responsibilities related to human building and the dissemination of values and trends among students.

 

Prof. Mahmoud Al-Smadi, the Dean of Academic Development and International Outreach, stated that the Deanship of Academic Development was established in order to lead the development and quality system toward excellence in performance, provide high and outstanding support for faculty development, ensure the quality of academic programs, enhance the university's global rankings, and expand cooperation and partnerships with international universities. He added that the Deanship is keen to hold several workshops and training programs within the annual academic development plan in line with the University's strategic plan and to keep up with the developments at the local and global levels in all areas.

 

Prof. Al-Smadi also said that the Deanship of Academic Development is keen to implement all the standards of the Authority for Accreditation and Quality of Higher Education Institutions in order to achieve progress and development in all university programs and reflect on the quality of graduates, domestic and international competitiveness, access to appropriate job opportunities and development of student’s skills.

 

The Deanship of Academic Development also oversees international projects aimed at assisting the University in achieving its objectives by linking the University with universities and prestigious scientific and research institutions worldwide, activating the University's vision towards aglobal reputation by activating participation in international projects and exchanging students and faculty and cultural joint programs at the local, regional and international levels. He asserts that the university’s policy of opening up to the world is one of the most important criteria for measuring universities' development.Therefore, the Deanship of Academic Development is signing and following up on conventions and memorandums of understanding with prestigious institutions and universities around the world.

 

Finally, the Assistant Dean of Academic Development and International outreach,Dr.Raed Al-Athamnah said that 40 new faculty members are participating in this workshop. The workshop comprises two parts: the first part includes the introduction of the Deanship of Academic Development, rules and regulations concerning faculty members, instructions for scientific research, financial instructions, health insurance, library unit, registration system, grading mechanism, college evaluation, and ICT centre services. The second part of the workshop aims to develop teaching and evaluation methods and includes effective university teaching methods, effective assessment methods for university students, and how to design a syllabus for the subject. New faculty members are also given a seminar on how to distinguish between factual methods, integrated education, and distance learning and how to use them in line with successful learning and evaluation strategies.
