Objectives (PEOS)

OBJECTIVES (PEOS):

1) Provide quality education and prepare scientific cadres capable of keeping up with scientific and technical developments.

2) Enhance the faculty of intellectual curiosity and lifelong education.

3) Encourage the production and dissemination of mathematical knowledge.

4) Strengthen local and global connections between the Department of Mathematics at Hashemite University and other similar departments at Arab and international universities.

5) Encourage empirical and theoretical research significantly contributing to mathematics, statistics, and support participation in local and international conferences and forums.

6) Support the professional growth of scientists to maintain quality technical and learning skills for undergraduate students.

7) Promote extra-curricular activities which enrich the bright image of the department.

Goals:

At the successful completion of the Bachelor program of Mathematics the student should be able to:

1. Apply knowledge of mathematics in a variety of contexts related to science, technology, and business. Using symbolic, numeric or graphical methods.
2. Design and conduct statistical experiments, collect data, as well as analyze and interpret these data.
3. Apply basic level of manipulative skills in algebra, geometry, trigonometry and calculus, and analyze the underlying unifying structures of mathematics and the relationships among them.
4. Formulate and analyze mathematical problems, define precisely the key terms, and draw clear and reasonable conclusions.
5. Read and construct correct mathematical proofs and use the library and electronic data-bases to locate information on mathematical problems.

6. Explain the impact of mathematical problem solutions in global and social context, follow up contemporary issues, and transfer information to generate knowledge and employ it for future uses.
7. Utilize techniques, skills and modern scientific tools such as mathematical packages, statistical software, graphing calculators, and online resources necessary for professional practice.
8. Develop the ability to Work in or within multidisciplinary teams.
9. Demonstrate commitment to lifelong learning, research, analysis, interpretation, critical think thinking and solving mathematical problems.
10. Communicate results and arguments clearly and correctly, both in written and oral discourse.
11. Interact effectively with different audiences, and develop their ability to collaborate intellectually and creatively in diverse contexts.
