Academic Advising
The Department has established an Academic Advising Committee, to oversee the academic advising process. At the beginning of each academic year, the committee assigns a group of students to each faculty member, who serves as their academic advisor throughout their studies.
Each student is encouraged to meet with their academic advisor at least once every regular semester, prior to or during the registration period, and whenever academic assistance or guidance is needed. During these meetings, advisors review students' academic progress, assist with course selection and registration, verify compliance with prerequisite and graduation requirements, and help students develop an appropriate study plan. Students may also schedule individual meetings with their advisors to discuss academic concerns, elective course selection, graduation plans, career aspirations, or other issues affecting their academic progress.
To support the advising process, students have access to the University's secure web-based Student Information System, which enables them to review their academic records, monitor degree progress, register for courses, and access other academic services.
Responsibilities of Academic Advisors
Academic advisors provide personalized educational guidance that considers each student's academic abilities, interests, aspirations, and individual circumstances. Their primary responsibility is to ensure that each student's study plan satisfies both University and program requirements while supporting the student's educational and career goals.
Academic advisors are responsible for:
- Assisting students with course registration, add/drop procedures, and academic planning.
- Monitoring students' academic progress and ensuring that courses are taken in the appropriate sequence.
- Explaining University and departmental academic regulations, policies, and graduation requirements.
- Advising students on elective course selection, practical training, graduation projects, and postgraduate study opportunities.
- Supporting students in improving their academic performance and developing effective learning, communication, leadership, and decision-making skills.
- Encouraging students to take responsibility for their educational plans and academic achievement.
- Providing additional advising and follow-up for students experiencing academic difficulties, particularly those on academic probation (CGPA below 2.0), by recommending appropriate strategies to improve their academic performance.
