Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy – Program Overview

The Department of Occupational Therapy at The Hashemite University was established in 1999, making it one of the first academic programs in Jordan to offer a Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy. It is also the first program in Jordan to receive international accreditation from the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT).

This program grants a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy to students interested in pursuing careers in medical rehabilitation as part of a multidisciplinary team. Throughout the course of study, students are provided with essential learning opportunities to acquire the core skills of the profession, along with the scientific knowledge required to practice effectively in the field.

The program prepares graduates to work across a wide range of rehabilitation settings, including services for children with developmental disabilities, adults with physical or neurological conditions, inpatient and outpatient hospital settings, as well as mental health services.

Enrolled students will receive a comprehensive education beginning with foundational coursework in anatomy, pathology, biology, and kinesiology, followed by specialized training in occupational therapy for developmental, physical, and psychological conditions, community-based rehabilitation, assistive technologies, and splinting techniques. The curriculum also includes elective courses tailored to students’ scientific and research interests, and aligned with the latest advances in the field.

Program Mission and Objectives

The primary mission of the Department is to equip the local and regional workforce with highly qualified and competent occupational therapists who will contribute to the advancement of healthcare and rehabilitation services in Jordan and beyond. Given that occupational therapy is a relatively new and emerging field in the region, and is taught in a limited number of Arab countries, there is a pressing need in the Middle East for well-trained occupational therapy professionals. This program strives to meet that need by graduating practitioners committed to professional excellence and the continuous improvement of rehabilitation services across various sectors.
