Bachelor of Occupational Therapy Program

The Bachelor of Occupational Therapy is offered by the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences, the Department of Physical and Occupational Therapy. The program consists of 136 credit hours and is taught over a period of 4 years. Students admitted are graduates of the General Secondary Examination - the scientific branch, or graduates of international programs. The study plan includes the University’s mandatory and optional requirements, the major’s mandatory and optional major requirements, in addition to the faculty’s requirements.

The mandatory requirements of the major cover the basic topics of occupational therapy starting with the specialized anatomy courses to biomechanics, assessment methods, and various treatment methods. First year modules focus on general anatomy, physiology and an introduction to physical therapy. The second year includes modules in specialized anatomy, biomechanics, developmental psychology, and skills of occupational therapy. In the third year, modules include occupational therapy for developmental cases, physical cases, and psychological cases. In the fourth and final year, modules include community-based rehabilitation, research methodology, in addition to clinical training modules that are offered in different hospitals and centers.

Prior to their graduation, students do their clinical training in a number of locations, the most important of which are the hospitals of the Royal Medical Services (King Hussein Medical City and Prince Hashim Military Hospital), Ministry of Health hospitals (Al-Bashir Hospital, Prince Faisal Hospital, National Center for psychiatry). In addition to a number of associations and special centers (such as the Hussein Society for Training and Inclusion, the Doctors Without Borders Association, and Community-based rehabilitation centers distributed in various regions in the Kingdom).

 

Bachelor of Physical Therapy Program

In the third year, modules include manual therapy, musculoskeletal diseases and injuries, pediatric physiotherapy, chronic pain, psychological aspects in physical therapy, and orthotics and prosthetics. In the fourth and final year, modules include physical therapy for the musculoskeletal system, the nervous system, and the specialized body systems, in addition to clinical training modules that are offered in different hospitals and centers.
