Welcome to the Maternal, Child, and Family Health Nursing Department
The Maternal, Child, and Family Health Nursing department is one of three major departments in the Faculty of Nursing at the Hashemite University. The department was established in the academic year of 2005/2006 based on the vision and mission of the faculty.
The department mainly prepares students for the Bachelor of Nursing at the third-year level by offering basic subjects in maternal, child, and family health nursing. Hence, students are provided with basic knowledge and nursing skills appropriate to take care of a pregnant woman, child, and family. Students can apply the nursing process, which includes assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation, in a way that serves the needs of the individual, family, and community and harmonizes with the Jordanian culture. At the undergraduate level, the department offers the following courses:
* Maternal & family health nursing ( theory + practicum)
* Pediatric health nursing (theory + practicum)
* Growth & Development
* Scientific Research and statistical methods in Nursing
* Midwifery
The department offers graduate master degree in maternal and women's health nursing. This program focuses on the development of advanced nursing practice for health care issues faced by women throughout the life cycle. Also, there is a plan to open a master degree in pediatric health nursing. At the graduate level, the department offers the following courses:
Nursing Research Methods
Contemporary Issues in Nursing
Statistical Methods
Moreover, the department offers a Reproductive Health course for all University’s undergraduate students as an elective course
The teaching staff also contributes to the advancement of mother, child, and family health by implementing many community service projects and related research activities in addition to holding many workshops that focus on family and reproductive health issues. As a result of these efforts, recently, we were nominated to be the reproductive health research center in collaboration with the Higher Council of Population and Share-net.
Currently, the department is run by one professor, four associate professors, one assistant professor, and one teacher-assistant. There are also 8 clinical instructors, who hold bachelor degree in nursing and supervise students' clinical performance, and one lab supervisor.
Our clinical training facilities include; six nursing skills labs at the faculty of nursing, in addition to multiple acute and chronic health care facilities from different health care sectors (military, governmental and teaching medical centers) in Jordan.
