The department offers three academic programs, Biology and Biotechnology as undergraduate programs and Master’s in Biology as a graduate one. The department has received accreditation from the British Royal Society of Biology in 2025 for a period of five years. This esteemed international accreditation underscores the department’s commitment to align with international standards, deliver high quality education and prepare qualified graduates in all fields of biological sciences.

This accreditation offers several benefits for students. It enhances their employability, as graduates of accredited programs are considered competitive candidates in the global job market. Accreditation also confirms that the students have achieved several learning outcomes, including subject expertise, technical proficiency, and intellectual and communication skills. In addition, it provides graduates with an internationally recognized certificate.

Furthermore, the department has a group of distinguished faculty members with broad research interests which cover most fields of biology including medical mycology, modeling of biological systems, cytogenetics, microbiology, molecular biology, development and evolution, cancer biology, biochemistry and gene expression. Many research projects of the faculty members have been supported by national and international funding grants, and the research findings have been published in high-ranking journals.
