The department offers three academic programs, two undergraduate (Biology and Biotechnology) and one graduate (Master in Biology). The different curricula provide solid background in basic and applied biological sciences. In addition, the department has a group of distinguished faculty members with research interests that include medical mycology, modeling of biological systems, cytogenetics, food microbiology, forensic molecular biology, neuropathy, cell migration, environmental biochemistry, cell biology, plant stress physiology, and gene expression.

The department has been ranked first or second in the nation in the University Competency Exam since its introduction in 2005. Many research projects of the faculty members have been supported by national and international funding grants. Most if not all of the professors are active in research and publication and their works have been cited. Our undergraduate and graduate students gain distinguished technical and research experiences in the laboratory.

The department’s vision and mission is dedicated to the Faculty of Science’s and adheres to The Hashemite University’s vision and mission. In addition, the department aims at providing the students with the knowledge and research skills in the various fields of biological sciences and encouraging them to keep abreast of developments to enable them to find employment opportunities locally, regionally and internationally.
