Welcome to the Department of Art Education, one of the new departments in the Faculty of Educational Sciences here at The Hashemite University. This department is unique in its specialization among Jordanian universities. We prepare students to become teachers of art education for the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Our current program grants successful students a Bachelors in Arts Education Teaching degree, following academic standards which are consistent with the requirements of academic accreditation from the Jordanian Accreditation and Quality Assurance Commission for Higher Education Institutions (AQACHEI). These requirements fulfill the needs of educational institutions in the Ministry of Education. Our graduates are prepared to teach and train students in specialist artistic skills, including drawing, photography, design, engraving and printing, calligraphy and decoration, sculpture, ceramics, handicrafts, and the use of technology in the arts, doing so with a full awareness of societal needs, the environment, and professional ethics.
The Department of Art Education was recently established at the Hashemite University in accordance with the decision of the Higher Education Council of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, by Letter No. M5/1733, dated 9 Rajab 1444, corresponding to 1/31/2023, to begin its work as an independent department in the Faculty of Educational Sciences starting from the second semester for the academic year 2022-2023. It aims to prepare art education teachers in a comprehensive way that keeps pace with the requirements of local and international academic accreditation, and to give them a competitive advantage in the labor market through developing cognitive abilities, artistic skill, and aesthetics. Students are developed on an ongoing basis, following the high quality standards necessary to prepare art teachers, and, in addition, giving them field training opportunities. Students are provided with the necessary research, leadership, and innovation skills to enable them to acquire the needed research and analytical skills for the sciences of art education and to advance them in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, so that they achieve the goal with which the Department of Art Education was established.
 The department also seeks to develop artistic taste and spread aesthetic awareness among Hashemite University students by offering materials related to aesthetic education and artistic appreciation and organizing exhibitions of student works in the fields of drawing, photography, ceramics, sculpture, design, printing, and so forth, establishing a permanent exhibition hall and a special museum for the arts. In addition, the department holds lectures and scientific seminars which contribute to spreading awareness of art and its role in building the individual and society.
The department is committed to applying comprehensive quality standards in accordance with the vision, mission and goals of the university, in order to do its part, in light of the needs of the learner, society, and the university’s vision and mission. It emphasizes the establishment of an advanced educational environment that keeps pace with global developments in order to enrich knowledge and support the building of an effective society under the slogan "From the Hashemite to the International."
In the future, the Department of Art Education looks forward to offering new programs at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels which are in line with technological and digital development in the visual arts and design, as well as contributing to the enrichment of the arts library with research and studies, serving the community, developing the environment, improving artistic taste, and meeting the needs of the local and regional labor market.
