Course Discription
:
This course deals with the development and the characteristics of modern Arabic poetry. It examines the factors that influenced its development through focusing on the major poets of the various poetic schools, such as al-Baroudi and Shawqi from the Renaissance group, the Mahjar poets, the Apollo group, and the school of free verse which was developed by al-Malaikah’ and al-Sayyab. Each phase of modern poetry will be represented by poems that reflect the characteristics of modernism in Arabic poetry.
