Basic understanding of certain key concepts and principles, which are fundamental to the practice of nursing, are th major milestones in this course. Historical influences on nursing practice as well as legal and ethical implications for nursing are included. Emphasis on the wellness- illness continuum. The student is introduced to the nursing process as a systematic method of problem solving in which effective communication and interpersonal relationships are central components. Knowledge about human basic needs is provided to meet the needs of the patient. Instructions throughout the course focus on the development of critical thinking skills necessary for the delivery of nursing care.
