This course introduces the fundamental principles of musculoskeletal injuries, including mechanisms of injury, risk factors, pathological changes, and stages of tissue healing and recovery. It covers common injuries involving bones, joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments, and other soft tissues, including fractures, dislocations, sprains, strains, and tendon and ligament injuries, with emphasis on injuries of the upper and lower extremities and spine. The course also introduces principles of diagnosis, clinical examination, medical imaging, common medical and surgical management, and associated complications and precautions. Emphasis is placed on understanding the impact of musculoskeletal injuries on movement, function, independence, activity performance, and participation, providing a scientific foundation for subsequent coursework in assessment, rehabilitation, and occupational therapy. |
