This course introduces the fundamental principles of neuroscience relevant to health and rehabilitation sciences. It covers the organization of the central and peripheral nervous systems, the basic structure and function of neurons and glial cells, membrane potentials, neural signaling, synaptic transmission, and neurotransmitters. The course also addresses the functional anatomy of the spinal cord, brainstem, cerebellum, basal ganglia, and cerebral cortex; sensory and motor pathways; the autonomic nervous system; and cranial nerves. Emphasis is placed on understanding structure–function relationships within the nervous system as a foundation for the study of movement control, sensation, behavior, and human occupational performance |
