This course addresses occupational therapy practice with children and adolescents with developmental delays and disabilities and the impact of motor, sensory, perceptual, cognitive, behavioral, and psychosocial factors on occupational performance and participation. It covers evaluation and analysis of performance in activities of daily living, play, learning, education, and social participation; identification of child and family needs; goal setting; and intervention planning. Topics include occupation- and play-based interventions, activity and environmental modification, assistive technology, and support for participation at home, school, and in the community. Emphasis is placed on child- and family-centered practice, clinical reasoning, evidence-informed practice, and promotion of independence and participation across developmental stages. |
