This course addresses occupational therapy practice with older adults, including age-related physical, sensory, cognitive, psychological, and social changes and their impact on occupational performance, independence, participation, and quality of life. It examines common health conditions affecting older adults and their influence on activities of daily living, instrumental activities of daily living, mobility, sleep, leisure, and social participation. Topics include occupational therapy assessment and intervention, fall prevention and safety, activity and home modification, adaptive equipment and assistive technology, maintenance of functional abilities, and health and wellness promotion. Emphasis is placed on healthy aging, person-centered, occupation-based, and evidence-informed practice, independence and community participation, and family and caregiver education. |
