This course examines the principles and applications of technology in occupational therapy practice to promote independence, occupational performance, and participation among individuals with diverse needs. It covers assistive technologies, devices, software, and digital applications used to support communication, mobility, learning, work, activities of daily living, leisure, and community participation, as well as environmental control and modification technologies. The course addresses assessment of client needs, selection and customization of appropriate technologies, training of clients and caregivers, and evaluation of usability and effectiveness. Students are also introduced to contemporary and emerging applications in occupational therapy and rehabilitation, including telerehabilitation, wearable technologies, virtual reality, and smart systems. Emphasis is placed on person-centered practice, accessibility, safety, privacy and ethical considerations, clinical reasoning, and evidence-informed selection and integration of technology into everyday occupations and environments. |
