This course examines the concepts and principles of community-based rehabilitation and the role of occupational therapy in promoting independence, inclusion, and participation for persons with disabilities and populations with diverse rehabilitation needs. It explores social, environmental, cultural, and economic factors influencing health, occupational performance, and participation and the identification of individual, family, and community needs and resources. Topics include improving access to health, rehabilitation, education, employment, and social participation; assistive technology and environmental modification; health promotion and prevention; empowerment, advocacy, and social inclusion. Emphasis is placed on planning, implementing, and evaluating community initiatives and programs and working in partnership with persons with disabilities, families, communities, organizations, and relevant sectors. |
