2405031223 Occupational Therapy for Mental Health 1, Credit Hours: 3
This is the first part of two courses that addresses the core and advanced concepts and knowledge unique to an occupational therapy perspective & treatment in mental health. This course covers occupational therapy concepts in relation to mental health, psychosocial issues and mental illness. During this course the students will be introduced to general as well as specific frames, tools and methods of occupational therapy treatment used to, assess, plan, treat and evaluate OT treatment in a mental health setting. This course will address the use of occupations, various activities, assistive devices, OT strategies, approaches and techniques, individual and group therapy (including group formation, group dynamics, and methods of group management). In addition, this course discuss the use OT practice framework (4th Ed., AOTA, 2020 or its updates), OT process (assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation) and the application of occupational therapy theories used in mental health occupational therapy area of practice in several fields of Occupation (ADL's, IADL's, Health management, Education, Work, Social Activities, Rest & Sleep, Play and Leisure) in mental health setting.
