This practical course provides hands-on application of kinesiology and biomechanical principles relevant to occupational therapy. Students develop skills in identifying and palpating anatomical landmarks, observing and analyzing joint motion and muscle actions, measuring range of motion, and analyzing posture, balance, and functional movement. Practical activities include analysis of upper- and lower-extremity and trunk movements, with particular emphasis on the upper extremity and hand, including reaching, grasping, gripping, and object manipulation. Students analyze the movement and biomechanical demands of everyday activities and tasks and identify how changes in joint mobility, strength, posture, and balance influence occupational performance. Emphasis is placed on integrating anatomical and biomechanical knowledge with observation, measurement, movement analysis, and activity analysis, providing a practical foundation for assessment and clinical reasoning in subsequent occupational therapy courses. |
