This practical course provides hands-on application of fundamental concepts in neuroanatomy and neurophysiology and develops students’ ability to identify neural structures and relate them to motor, sensory, perceptual, and cognitive functions. Using anatomical models, educational resources, images, and anatomical sections, students identify major structures of the brain, spinal cord, brainstem, cerebellum, basal ganglia, cranial nerves, and peripheral nerves and trace major sensory and motor pathways. Practical activities also introduce examination of basic neurological functions, including sensation, movement, coordination, balance, reflexes, and cranial nerve functions, and use applied cases to relate the location of neurological dysfunction to resulting functional changes. Emphasis is placed on integrating anatomical and physiological knowledge with an understanding of neurological functions relevant to occupational performance, providing a foundation for assessment and clinical reasoning in subsequent occupational therapy and neurological rehabilitation courses. |
