2405031212 Occupational Therapy for Physical Disabilities 1 Practice, Credit Hours: 1
The practice section of this course is experiential in nature that will provide the student with the opportunity for the development of beginning skills in occupational based evaluation and treatment of clients with physical disabilities. In this course, the student acquires the basic skills in using various assessment and therapeutic tools in occupational therapy. It will introduce the student to how to deal with patients, collect information about their occupational performance, how to employ purposeful activities as a mean and as an end. The student will be trained on how to use various assistive tools and methods in performing occupations for patients with physical disabilities. This course also focuses on how to rehabilitate the patient to be able to carry out his various occupations, especially the basic ones, such as dressing, bathing, meal preparation, and others, with the highest degree of independence. The student is trained on how to evaluate the patient's home and suggest appropriate modifications to make it more suitable for the use of a patient with a physical disability. The student is also trained on the wheelchair in terms of its parts, how it is used by various patients, and how to avoid its potential effect on the patient.
