This course introduces the fundamental principles of first aid and initial response to accidents, injuries, and medical emergencies that may occur in healthcare, rehabilitation, and community settings. It covers assessment of the casualty and incident scene, recognition of life-threatening conditions, principles of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and initial management of choking, bleeding, wounds, burns, fractures, dislocations, soft-tissue injuries, and head and spinal injuries, as well as common medical emergencies. The course also addresses accident and injury prevention, infection control, personal safety, principles of casualty handling and transfer, and activation of emergency medical services. Emphasis is placed on developing students’ ability to respond promptly and safely within the scope of first aid, protect the casualty, and prevent further harm until appropriate medical care becomes available. |
