This course gives an introduction to the history of Semitic languages and the evolution of writing from pictographic into alphabetic form. The students will be exposed to samples of Semitic writings like North Semitic languages (Edomite, Moabite, and Ammonite) as well as to Arab Southern Semitic languages (Sabaic, Minaean, Qatabanian, Hadramite, and Himyarite). |
