This course advances occupational therapy practice with children and adolescents with developmental disabilities, emphasizing assessment and intervention for more complex conditions and occupational needs. It examines the interaction of motor, sensory, perceptual, cognitive, behavioral, and psychosocial factors and their impact on independence and participation across home, school, and community environments. The course addresses advanced intervention strategies to support activities of daily living, play, education, and social participation, as well as environmental adaptations, assistive technology, routines and habits, family-centered interventions, and practice within educational and community settings. Emphasis is placed on clinical reasoning, evidence-based intervention selection, outcome measurement, interdisciplinary collaboration, and supporting transitions, independence, and participation across developmental stages. |
