Course Discription : This course introduces the foundations of occupational therapy practice in mental health, emphasizing the relationship between mental health, occupational performance, and participation in meaningful occupations. It addresses common mental health conditions and the influence of symptoms and personal and environmental factors on activities of daily living, education, work, leisure, and social participation. The course introduces occupational therapy assessment, therapeutic relationships, the use of occupation as both a means and an outcome of intervention, basic individual and group interventions, and strategies for developing skills, habits, and routines that support health and participation. Emphasis is placed on person-centered and recovery-oriented practice, clinical reasoning, therapeutic communication, safety, ethical considerations, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
