This course focuses and assesses the major different types of financial institutions including credit unions, mutual funds, securities firms, brokerage firms, investment banks, reserve banks, and insurance companies. Especial focus would be provided to commercial banks operations to determine the soundness of its condition. The course describes the methodology used by examiners to assess the criteria for assigning ratings and performance of financial and banking institutions, reflecting an understand for the qualitative as well as quantitative factors for evaluating financial institutions. Further, the course demonstrate the method of identifying various risks faced by financial institutions, the evaluation of these risks, monitoring procedures and internal controls that might be undertaken by such institutions. |
