This course is an introduction to the art of minimalist analysis. This involves helping students become acquainted with the technology that is part and parcel of any specialized approach. It also involves focusing on recent developments in Minimalist theory, in particular on Theta domains, Case domains, , Movement and minimality effects, Phrase structure, Binding Theory, Feature Interpretability and feature checking, and Derivational economy. Students will be expected to read and critique primary literature in the minimalist program. Another goal of this course is to help students develop problem solving skills that are common to all subfields of linguistics. |
