This course is designed to provide a historical survey of the development of drama from its earliest stage, followed by an analytical study of five plays. It also aims at acquainting students with the fundamental structure of drama. The following topics will be discussed in detail:
1. Elements of drama: plot, theme, character, dialogue.
2. The structure of the play: exposition, complication, denouement.
3. Main types of drama: tragedy, comedy, melodrama.
