This course is designed to be a general introduction to the development of the novel in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, to be followed by a thorough analytical study of four selected novels by the most distinguished authors: Defoe, Fielding, Jane Austen, Dickens, Thackeray, George Eliot, and Hardy. |
