This course is designed to provide a general survey of English literature during the Anglo-Saxon era, the medieval period, and the Renaissance era. The students will study various samples from the previously mentioned eras, such as the historical English epic Beowulf, and some works by William Shakespeare, Henry Howard Earl of Surrey, Sir Thomas Wyatt, Chances. The course also include works by Samuel Johnson, Jonathan Swift, in addition to poetry by Pope, Dryden, and Milton. |
