This course looks at the origins of comparative literature, its conceptions, directions or styles, to be followed by literary specimens from different cultures as in "Voyages to the Other World" Al Ma’arri’s Risalat Al Ghufran (known as Epistles of Forgiveness) and Dante’s Divine Comedy, love stories like Romeo and Juliet and the Arabic Qays Wa Layla, the archetypal miser in Moliere and Al Jahidh. Finally, there will be exercises on comparative literary studies such as those on T. S. Eliot and Al Sayyab. |
