:
This course deals with the Orientalist movement, its cultural and evangelical causes, and the link between Arabic literature and Orientalism. Based on this, orientalists headed early to study Arabic literature in its traditional form, and their efforts concentrated on investigating, indexing, and authentificating its manuscripts. They also published reference Arabic books on literature, thought, and culture. Furthermore, orientalists had works published on ancient poetic collections, and then they published robust studies about the history and trends of Arabic literature. Attention must be paid to some Orientalist distortions regarding Arab culture, without being oblivious to their relentless efforts in studying our Arab literary heritage through scrutinizing and investigating its relevant manuscripts and texts. |
