This course is designed to introduce a review of normal cardiopulmonary physiology and the response of this system to exercise and disease. It will enables the student to independently examine and reexamine a patient with cardiovascular and pulmonary problems by obtaining a pertinent history and performing relevant systems review. The student will be able to synthesize examination data to complete the physical therapy evaluation and to establish a safe and effective plan of care; goals and functional outcomes that specify expected times and duration; achievable patient or client outcomes within available resources; and means of monitoring and adjusting the plan of care in response to patient/client status for patients with cardiovascular/pulmonary diseases, disorders, or conditions. The course also enables the student to: provide direct physical therapy interventions to achieve patient outcomes based on the examination and the impairments, functional limitations, and disabilities; promote optimal health by providing information on prevention, wellness, and fitness; know the health risks related to age, gender, culture, and lifestyle. |
