This course aims at acquainting students with the basic distinctions philology and language science, Arab and western definition of language science, theories of language formation, language families, methodologies of language analysis (historical, descriptive, and comparative), ancient and modern history of language study, selected modern theories of language (the French School, the Prague Forum, the Copenhagen School, the American School, Noam Chomsky, the Arabic Tertiary School). |
