This course stresses the general influences of the time on poetry, its cultural, intellectual and social aspects, the various poetic milieu along with the topical and technical features which will be discerned through a study of a selection of poetical texts from works of prominent writers of the age. Special emphasis will be put on poetic structure innovations, experience, style and language, poetic imagery, religious effects through a detailed study of three renowned poets. Students will be required to memorize no less than a 100 poetry verses. |
