This course discusses the term ‘Lexicon’ or what is known as ‘Muajam’ both linguistically and terminologically, then moves to the types of lexicons, the compilation of lexicons with linguistic roots, phonetic and alphabetical compilation resulting from the etymological origins, subject lexicons, faults and merits in a number of dictionaries. Students will also look at the terminology used in lexicons, definitions and modes of usage, the most renowned Arabic lexicons and principles guiding their selection for this course. |
