This course defines the scientific study of phonetics, and then provides an exposition of its branches and sub-divisions, historical importance to Arabs, the formation of sounds, cognition and delivery of phonemes. Students will later study the elements of stress, entunement and elongation, the classification of compounded phonemes through the vocal, silent and anatomical organs which are employed for their utterance, types and sub-divisions of syllables, phonetic alterations such as emasculation, rescission, deletion and coupling. The course concludes with analogy and antithesis, features of the phonetic performance such as entunement, accentuation, elongation and timing. |
