This course introduces the fundamental principles and methods of scientific research and their application to occupational therapy and rehabilitation sciences. It covers formulation of research problems, questions, and hypotheses; literature searching and review; quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods research designs; sampling methods; data collection; principles of measurement, validity, and reliability; and basic data analysis and interpretation. The course also addresses research ethics, bias and sources of error, critical appraisal of research studies, and interpretation of scientific evidence relevant to occupational therapy. Students develop skills in formulating research questions, preparing research proposals, and selecting appropriate methodologies, with emphasis on integrating the best available evidence with professional expertise and client needs and values to support evidence-based occupational therapy practice and decision-making. |
