This course addresses the principles and practice of occupational therapy with older adults, emphasizing age-related physical, sensory, cognitive, psychological, and social changes and their impact on occupational performance, independence, participation, and quality of life. It examines common health conditions affecting older adults and their influence on activities of daily living, instrumental activities of daily living, mobility, sleep, leisure, and social participation. The course covers occupational therapy assessment and intervention, fall prevention and safety promotion, activity and home environmental modification, adaptive equipment and assistive technology, maintenance of functional abilities, and health and wellness promotion. Emphasis is placed on person-centered, occupation-based, and evidence-informed practice, supporting healthy aging, independence, and community participation, educating families and caregivers, and collaborating within interdisciplinary teams across healthcare and community settings. |
