This course examines the concepts, principles, and strategies of community-based rehabilitation and its role in promoting health, independence, inclusion, and community participation for persons with disabilities and populations with diverse rehabilitation needs. It addresses social, environmental, cultural, and economic factors influencing health, occupational performance, and participation, as well as the identification of individual, family, and community needs and available resources. Topics include strategies to improve access to health and rehabilitation services, education, employment, and social participation; assistive technology and environmental modification; health promotion and prevention; empowerment, advocacy, and social inclusion. Emphasis is placed on the role of occupational therapy in community initiatives, planning, implementing, and evaluating rehabilitation programs and projects, and working in partnership with persons with disabilities, families, communities, organizations, and different sectors to promote participation, equity, inclusion, and quality of life. |
