This course advances occupational therapy practice with children and adolescents with developmental disabilities, with emphasis on more complex conditions and occupational needs. It examines the interaction of motor, sensory, perceptual, cognitive, behavioral, and psychosocial factors and their impact on independence and participation across home, school, and community environments. The course addresses advanced assessment and intervention strategies to support activities of daily living, play, education, and social participation, as well as environmental adaptations, assistive technology, habits and routines, and child- and family-centered practice. Emphasis is placed on advanced clinical reasoning, selection of occupation-based and evidence-informed interventions, outcome measurement, practice in educational and community settings, and supporting transitions, independence, and participation across developmental stages. |
