This practical course provides hands-on application of foundational occupational therapy skills for children with developmental delays and disabilities. Students practice systematic observation, collection of occupational and developmental histories, use of appropriate assessment tools, and analysis of performance in activities of daily living, play, learning, and participation. Students also apply activity and play analysis, problem identification and prioritization, child- and family-centered goal setting, and planning and implementation of activities and interventions addressing motor, sensory, perceptual, cognitive, and occupational performance needs. Practical experiences emphasize safe handling, activity and environmental modification, communication with children and families, documentation, outcome measurement, and development of clinical reasoning. |
